Hello Fresh is an industry staple in the Meal Delivery Kit business.  They were one of the first, and as a result, also one of the best-known names in meal kit delivery products.  Since they've been around a while, they've had plenty of time to get this whole “meal kit delivery service” thing perfected. If you have particular dietary concerns, or the meals simply don't appeal to you, or if you're shopping for only one person, then maybe this meal kit wouldn't be a perfect fit.  But, for the rest of us, it seems that Hello Fresh is a great option.  If you'd like our review of Hello Fresh, please read on.

Hello Fresh is a very popular provider of once-a-week-deliveries of delicious meals that customers cook at home.  Customers enjoy the simplicity of their services and the mass appeal of the menu.  They've been doing this for a long time, and have thousands of happy, long-term customers.  Although you are not committed to repeat purchases, we all assume that you will after you've selected your preferred day of the week, you'll end up accepting a few week's of deliveries at the very least.  You can cancel at any time, including immediately.  So, if you're the person who truly just wants to try a “one week supply” of Hello Fresh, then you can certainly cancel after your first delivery.  I suspect, however, that you'll want to keep going for a while.  

Hello Fresh offers very appealing menu options.

Their menus are very “mass appeal”, with lots of variety that should make everyone happy in most families.  The menu is updated regularly and seasonal favorites are always popular choices for their longterm customers.  Below, see the photo of 3 example plates customers receive in recent meal kit deliveries from Hello Fresh. As you can see from the screenshots below, you order on this one page.  It's really quite simple.  (You can customize further with add-ons later, if you wanted to feed a family larger than 4, for instance.). Just select your food preference and tell them how many meals to ship each week, and you're all set.  The price is almost always $8.99 plus $7.99 delivery.  The price is reduced to $7.49 for families of 4 receiving 4 recipes per week.

However, Hello Fresh is always willing to offer a discount to entice new customers to give them a shot.

How much should I expect to spend with Hello Fresh each week?

How much you should expect to pay each week for your Hello Fresh deliveries depends on the number of servings and the number of recipes / meals you want delivered each week.  Below, we've listed their current prices and organized them by the number of people (4 people or 2 people) and the number of “meals per week” (mpw) each person would receive in a single weekly shipment.

(If they didn't, many of their long term customers would have sought an alternative.) Hello Fresh sources their food, packages and delivers their food with sustainability in mind.

When will my Hello Fresh meals be delivered?

As part of Hello Fresh's goal to reduce their carbon footprint and be as efficient as possible, all of the Hello Fresh customers in your area will receive Hello Fresh deliveries on the same day.  This helps reduce redundancy and inefficiencies in the logistics of distributing food throughout the country.  So, when you place your order, you can determine what the day of the week your Hello Fresh Meal Kits will be delivered.  Larger areas may have a few days of the week from which you can choose, but you'll have to see that when you place your order.

Is the packaging from a Hello Fresh delivery recyclable?

Hello Fresh uses as much recyclable and reusable material in their packaging as they possibly can.  When designing their packaging, the most important need is to keep the contents of a delivery to be safe from the elements (hot, cold, rain, snow) and that the contents will be safe from damage due to mishandling, accidents or worse.  And, the contents have to be appropriately separated from each other as needed.  Why?  Because your food has to arrive safely in your hands.  All of these considerations must be managed to ensure your food comes to you safely and as fresh as possible. However, Hello Fresh does a great job of using as few packaging materials as possible, and ensuring that the packaging material they do use will be recyclable.  So, whenever possible: they will use materials that are recyclable.  Also, their ice packs are reusable.  

Does Hello Fresh require a commitment or monthly subscription?

In short, no.  There is no commitment or monthly subscription with Hello Fresh. However, I think we all assume that you'll want to try at least a few deliveries or a few months.  (You're under no obligation to stick around.)

How to skip a week of Hello Fresh deliveries, or to quit completely.

You'll have a designated day when your area receives shipments from Hello Fresh.  You have 5 days in advance to cancel any delivery.  After that, they'll have already placed all their orders from their farmers and other vendors, so it would be too late for you to cancel.  So, the only time you'll be obligated to pay for a delivery is if you don't cancel it within 5 days.  However, if you simply cancel in time, by giving them at least 5 days advanced notice, you can cancel any individual shipment or all ongoing shipments, effectively cancelling.  

Giving the gift of Hello Fresh.

Most people, it seems to me, purchase Hello Fresh for their families, not as a gift.  However, what a great gift idea Hello Fresh is for a busy couple or a busy family who wants to cook!  Or, if you know someone already is a Hello Fresh customer, you can give them a gift that would cover some or all of their delivery(ies), depending on the amount of your gift.

How do you give a gift of Hello Fresh?

In short: They'll get an email with a coupon code that pays for a set number of meals. You give Hello Fresh as a gift by giving the recipient a digital gift card that they'll redeem at Hello Fresh when they select their meals.  It's pretty clever, actually, because instead of offering gift cards for Hello Fresh at traditional amounts of $50, $75 or $100 increments, they offer their gift cards in exact amounts that will cover the complete costs for specific deliveries, while allowing your gift recipients the ability to choose their meals from a large menu and select their preferred dates for deliveries of their gift.
