Air Fryer Hush Puppies

I love hush puppies. Something about that crispy crust around the cornbread balls makes it a top contender for best sides to bring to any holiday feast. Since owning my first air fryer I've been trying to find recipes for my favorite foods to make a healthier version in my air fryer, and luckily for you and me, I have the perfect recipe to make these lovely little treats in the air fryer, so you can skip out on that extra oil and won't have to worry about putting on those extra pounds!

Air Fryer Hush Puppies

Everybody loves crispy, crunchy hush puppies. But with all the oil, they're so unhealthy! In the air fryer, you can make delicious and crispy hush puppies with a fraction of the oil!

Ingredients

  • 1 c 1 all-purpose flour

  • 1 c 1 cornmeal

  • 1/2 tbsp 1/2 baking powder

  • 2 tbsp 2 sugar

  • 1 tsp 1 salt

  • 1 tbsp 1 garlic powder

  • 1/3 c 1/3 buttermilk

  • 1 1 egg

  • 2-3 tbsp 2-3 chopped or grated onion

  • 2-3 tbsp 2-3 chopped green onion

  • 3 tbsp 3 unsalted butter

Directions

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, sugar, salt, and garlic powder
  • In another bowl, whisk in buttermilk, and lightly beaten eggs until well combined.
  • Add the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients until fully incorporated, then add grated onions and butter.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer to 400 Degrees.
  • Lightly grease the metal basket with cooking spray and arrange the hush puppies in a single layer without touching each other.
  • Set your Air Fryer to 380°F, for 4-5 minutes. Flip over carefully and cook on the other side for an additional 4 minutes, or until cooked through and crispy.
