Copycat Shamrock Shake Recipe

It's easy to recreate your own version of the favorite, seasonal Shamrock Shake. No drive-thru required! Enjoy our copycat recipe all year round

St. Patrick's Day has me craving Irish dishes and a Shamrock Shake. There’s something about the good feeling you get when you gulp down a green, cold, minty shake. Maybe it’s also that it’s seasonal and the limited availability creates a sense of time, nostalgia, and excitement. But, let’s get real. Indulging every once in a while is fine, but you (I mean me) could do without the high-fructose corn syrup and other ingredients that I can’t pronounce. Skip the drive through and make one yourself. It’s easy and you can enjoy it any time of the year.

Here’s our copycat recipe.

Copycat McDonald's Shamrock Shake

Recipe by Lisa
Course: Dessert, BeverageCuisine: AmericanDifficulty: Easy

A minty, creamy shake inspired by McDonald's, perfect for a refreshing treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups 2 vanilla ice cream

  • 1 cup 1 whole milk

  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4 peppermint extract

  • 8 drops 8 green food coloring

  • whipped cream whipped for topping

Directions

  • In a blender, combine the vanilla ice cream, whole milk, peppermint extract, and green food coloring. Blend on high speed until smooth and creamy.
  • Taste the mixture to ensure the mint flavor is to your liking, and adjust the peppermint extract if necessary for a stronger flavor.
  • Pour the shake into chilled glasses, leaving some space at the top for the whipped cream.
  • Top with whipped cream.

Notes

  • You might need to add more peppermint extract, but adjust to taste. You don't want it to taste like mouthwash. Add a cherry on top for additional flair. Additionally, if you want to make this an adult beverage you can add one shot of Jameson's Irish Whiskey or Bailey's Irish Cream.
